As promised in an earlier post, I am providing some Bible verses which pertain to the healing of the body as well as of the soul and spirit. I find it helpful to declare a number of these verses aloud several times a day as a way of claiming for myself God’s promises about healing. In addition, I also speak directly to a particular illness and its symptoms, commanding it to cease its activity in my body, and I do so based upon the authority and power Jesus gives me. I cite for you those passages in which Jesus gives such authority and power over disease to his followers and I provide examples of such prayer commands. (Many thanks to my friend, Cynthia, who provided me with much of this material.)
A suggested prayer with which to begin your Scripture declarations:
Lord God, Father, Son & Holy Spirit: Holy is Your name. To You be the glory, forever and ever. I ask you now to release the power of the Holy Spirit into these Scripture prayers to break strongholds, as you have promised. (2 Corinthians 10:4)
Some verses to declare in regards to healing:
I agree with: Matthew 8:17 – that Jesus has taken all my infirmities and borne all my diseases in his own body. I receive by faith His rewards, which are divine healing and divine health.
I agree with: Psalm 107:19-20 – I cry out to the Lord in my trouble, and he saves me from my distress. He sends forth his word and heals me; he rescues me from the grave.
I agree with: Psalm 91: 10-11 – that no evil will befall me; neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. For You have given Your angels charge over me and they keep me in all my ways. In my pathway are life, healing and health.
I agree with: John 10:10 – that although the thief came at me to kill, steal, and destroy, Jesus Christ has come so that I may have life abundantly. I receive that abundant life through faith, in the name of Jesus.
I agree with: Romans 8:11– that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in me, and I ask that Holy Spirit to bring His healing and life to every cell in my body, and to set me free from all disease, forever.
I agree with: Proverbs 4:21-22 – Lord, I will not let Your words depart from my eyes, and I will keep them in the midst of my heart, for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
I agree with: Psalm 118: 5-7, 10, 13b-18 – I called on the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can [name of disease] do to me? The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see [name of disease destroyed from my body.]… [Name of disease] surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord [Jesus] it is destroyed… The Lord has helped me. The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in my house; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord. The Lord has . . . not given me over to death.
I agree with: Psalm 41:3b and Jeremiah 30:17 – that the Lord will restore me from my bed of illness; he will restore me to health and heal me of my wounds.
I agree with: John 11:4 – that this illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.
Psalm 103: 2-5 – Father, I praise you and I forget not all your benefits: you have forgiven all my sins; you have healed all my diseases; you have redeemed my life from the pit. You encircle me with steadfast love and mercy and you satisfy my mouth with good things so that my youth is renewed as the eagles.
Exodus 23:25 – I worship the Lord my God; his blessing will be on my food and water. He will take away sickness from me.
3 John 2 – I pray that all may go well with me and that I may be in good health, as it goes well with my soul.
1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 8:9 and Ephesians 3:19 – I present my body as a temple of the living God. The Holy Spirit dwells in me, and His life permeates my spirit, soul, and body. I am filled to all the fullness of God.
Additional verses to claim for healing of the body, soul and spirit:
Ephesians 1:4-5 – Father, you chose me before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in your sight. In love You predestined me to be adopted as Your daughter through Jesus Christ in accordance with Your pleasure and will.
Numbers 6:24-26 – Lord, you bless me and keep me; You hold me securely and make Your face shine upon me and You are gracious to me. You turn Your face toward me and give me peace.
Colossians 1: 22 – God has reconciled me by Christ’s physical body through death to present me holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation…
1 Peter 2:24 – Jesus bore my sins in his own body on the tree; therefore, I am dead to sin and alive unto the righteousness of God, and by his stripes I am healed and made whole.
Matthew 6:12; Romans 5:5, 2 Corinthians 12:9 – I release unforgiveness and strife from my life. I choose to forgive others as Christ has forgiven me, for God’s love has been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit…. His grace is sufficient for me.
2 Corinthians 1:20 – For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
Matthew 6: 9-10, Revelation 21:5 – Father God: may Your will be done on earth – specifically, in my life – as it is in heaven, where You are making all things new.
Examples of ways to incorporate the promises of Scripture into prayers which address a particular illness or disease:
Galatians 3:13; Romans 8:37, Ephesians 6:13-15 – I am redeemed from the curse of the law, I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ and I stand on the ground he won for me, my feet fitted with the gospel of peace for sure footing….therefore in Jesus’ name, I forbid (name the illness(es) or disease(s) which afflict you) or any sickness or disease of any kind to inhabit my body. I am delivered out of the authority of darkness (Colossians 1:13-14) and in Jesus’ name I charge every organ and tissue of my body to function in the perfection to which God has created it to function. Each one is very good; I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Genesis 1: 31, Psalm 139:14)
John 14:20 – Jesus is in the Father and I am in Jesus and he is in me…therefore in Jesus’ name I speak to my blood and I command every red and white cell to destroy every diseased germ, virus, and cancerous or alien cell that is trying to inhabit my body. (Mark 11:23-24, Luke 17:6)
John 15:5, 7:38 – I am a branch of the True Vine and streams of Living Water flow from within me…therefore, I command every foreign cell that is not promoting life and health in my body to be cut off from its life source in the name of Jesus Christ. (Mark 11:23-24, Luke 17:6)
Romans 8:1– Because I am in Christ Jesus, through his blood shed for me, and no longer under condemnation…I speak in Jesus’ name and I command my immune system to function properly without confusion. Thank you, Jesus, for quickening my immune system with the life of God. (Mark 11:23-24, Luke 17:6)
Luke 9:2 – In the authority and power given to me by Jesus Christ… I speak to pain, swelling, inflammation and infection: I give no place to you, especially in (name where you are experiencing any of the aforementioned) – and I command you in the name of Jesus to cease your activity and line up with God’s word. God sent his word and healed me and delivered me from every pit of disease, infirmity and every pit of destruction, for Jesus Christ is the Lord my Healer. (Psalm 107:20)
A suggested prayer with which to end your Scripture declarations:
Father God, I thank you that you are watching to see that your word is fulfilled. (Jeremiah 1:12) You said through your prophet, Isaiah, “My Word…will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I desire.” (55:11) And Scripture says that you honor Your word as You do Your name; above all things. (Psalm 138:2) So Father, I thank you that as I feast upon your word in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the healing power of your word is being released into and manifested in my spirit, body and soul. In Jesus Christ name I pray.
Finally, Scripture passages which encourage us to go forth and lay hands on the sick and pray for their healing:
Luke 9:1-2 – And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
Luke 10:1, 8-9 – After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go… “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”
Matthew 17:20, Luke 17:6 – Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 18: 19-20 – “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Mark 11:23-25 – Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
John 14: 12-14 – Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
1 John 5:14-15 – This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Mark 16:17-18 – And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”… And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.
James 5: 14-16 – Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
